Cordelia will guide us through our practice on this day of thanks as we come together and bring into our hearts what we are grateful for. The benefits of practicing gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.

This all-level class will focus on cultivating an attitude of gratitude towards whatever it is you are thankful to have in your life. Everyone will leave feeling relaxed, peaceful, more alive, and able to head into our holiday to spread our love and gratitude to each individual we encounter.

108 Sun Salutations for Winter Solstice

$20

On Thursday, December 21st, we will gather at Yoga Life Studio on the darkest night of the year with the light in our hearts to set our intentions for what is to come. In eastern philosophy the number 108 is considered a number that represents a complete cycle and is the ultimate end of an event or phenomenon. So, for this reason it is common to do 108 rounds of something meaningful to you on auspicious occasions.

As a community, we will practice 108 Sun Salutations to honor this powerful ritual and tradition. We practice this repetition with focus and intention. Just as any repetitive task in life can lead us to boredom and restlessness, we can learn how to come back to our intention and physically work mindfully and smarter, rather than harder, which are all great lessons for ourselves as we move into a new year. We will finish with a brief meditation letting the lessons we learn on our mat this day resonate within us.

You don't have to practice all 108 Sun Salutations, your presence is enough. All- Levels welcome :)

Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series Workshop with Brooke Margherone

$35

The first series of Ashtanga Yoga is known as Yoga Chikitsa, or Yoga therapy because it purifies and heals the body from the inside out. This healing process begins with a set sequence of postures uniquely selected to increase flexibility, align your spine and help you build endurance and strength. The postures in Primary Series are familiar for most yoga students, but the way they are organized and executed can become the challenge. When the body faces this challenge, the breath becomes fuller, the mind becomes steady, and you’ll feel a deep sense of peace and physical lightness.

In this workshop we will explore the most traditional and authentic form of Yoga that originally came to the West. Every branch of the Ashtanga Yoga method will be dissected and an explanation on how to incorporate yoga it in to your daily life, as well as how to develop your own disciplined, daily practice.

Join Brooke for the opportunity to find the true lineage in your yoga and take your practice to the next level. Not recommended for students brand new to Yoga. All-levels welcome!

Reiki Level I Training and Certification with Heather Fox

$150

Saturday, November 4th 1:00pm-6:30pm with a 45-min lunch break

In this Reiki 1 Class (Reiki First Degree) you will learn the original Usui Reiki system, taught by Heather Fox Reiki Master Teacher
.
Reiki is the Japanese word for “Universal Life Energy.”
This energy is all around us and we can channel it.
Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui, a scholar from Kyoto, Japan in the 1920s. It was passed down to Chujiro Hayashi, a medical doctor, who trained Hawayo Takata, the Japanese-American woman who introduced Reiki to the United States.

The Reiki energy flows through the hands of the trained practitioner and into the person, animal or plant being treated, enhancing and accelerating the natural healing processes in the body. Reiki is used to relieve stress and promote deep states of relaxation, good-health and well-being.

In this training you will learn:

  • How to confidently deliver effective Reiki treatments for yourself, family, friends, and pets.
  • The history of Reiki and science behind Reiki level I
  • How to bring healing comfort and calm to any condition, - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual
  • How to treat acute and chronic health conditions
  • How to use Reiki to manifest goals and intentions
  • How to use Reiki to improve immune function
  • How to use Reiki to reduce and eliminate stress, tension and pain
  • How to use Reiki to prepare someone for surgery (prepare their mind and body to avoid internalizing the trauma, in order to heal faster.)
  • How to customize each Reiki treatment to fit anyone’s (human or animal) needs so it can be the most effective treatment for them.
  • How to scan the human energy field and chakras (energy centers)
  • A deeper understanding of the energy body and how to maintain it
  • How to give Reiki to yourself
  • How to give a Reiki treatment to someone who is sitting in a chair (not everyone may be able to lie down comfortably).
  • How to give Reiki treatments to pets, dogs, cats and horses as well as to plants in your home or garden.
  • How to use Reiki in your everyday life for more balance, joy and good health

Heather Fox is a certified Reiki Master Teacher in the both the traditional Usui System of Natural Healing and Karuna Reiki®. She has studied, practiced and taught Reiki throughout the United States, concentrating on Los Angeles and Chicago. Heather is also a certified Pranic Healer®, Angel Intuitive® and Holographic Memory Resolution Practitioner®.

Heather is passionate in helping people heal and empowering them to recognize their true essence and to live more in love and light.

Bandhas and Bravery: The Art of Arm Balancing with Hilaire Lockwood

$40

The ability to arm balance goes far beyond strong arms and a strong core. While they can be mystifying and scary, when approached correctly, they are exhilarating, empowering and fun! It takes courage, bravery and confidence coupled with the proper internal elements to begin to soar on our hands. In this workshop, we’ll create proper awareness and engagement of our bandhas (the internal energy locks that are the foundation of our core strength) as well as building basic shoulder and arm alignment that will be carried forth to full arm balances. Hilaire will guide students through a sequence that will prepare the foundation necessary to do these poses with ease and freedom. This class is for those challenged by arm balances and for those who love them! In working towards our potential in these poses, we empower ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally by cultivating inner confidence and trust.

Yogic Willpower: Tapas Workshop

Yogic Willpower: Tapas Workshop

$25

Join Brooke for this fiery workshop!

Tapas is a deep, passionate personal practice and one of the five Niyamas or personal observances of the Ashtanga Yoga philosophy. Tapas is striving to be the best version of you and recognizing that what is the best for you, isn’t the best for anyone else. Swami Satchidananda said that Tapas is self-discipline, not self-torture. This causes each of us to ask, “Why am I practicing yoga at all? Is it of intention? And, is what I’m practicing, right for me?”

As Tapas is further explored in this workshop, you will find your personal practice of tapas reveals the layers beyond the body and within the mind. We will purify, simplify, and learn to practice smarter, not harder, while still burning our fire bright!

An overview of all eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga will be explored physically, mentally, and spiritually with an emphasis on the Niyama, Tapas. Feel free to bring a journal and pen. This workshop will include asana, pranayama, and meditation. Bring your mat and be ready to practice.

Thai Yoga Therapy Workshop with Lesli Clarke

$40 Individual Registration
OR
$70 Partner Registration

Nuad Boran (as it is called in Thailand) is best described as a peaceful "dance" of healing movement, stretching, energy manipulation and pressure. The stretching movement, breathing and meditative quality is reminiscent of a passive yoga session, but there's nothing passive about the way you feel after giving or receiving Thai bodywork - "amazing," "revitalized" and "totally renewed" are comments typically heard after a session.

This three-hour workshop will introduce you to the basics of Thai Bodywork. Bring your partner or friend (or come alone, we'll pair you up!) and get abasic introduction to the practice of Thai bodywork. During this workshop we'll discuss a short history of Thai massage, learn an overview of Sen, or energy lines, and talk about safe methods of using your hands, feet and other body parts before getting to the good stuff!

Gain confidence using a wide variety of partner stretching and massage techniques
Learn a simple and effective Thai “routine” to practice on your family and friends
Learn about the history, culture, and spirit of Thai bodywork
Practice meditative breathing techniques and visualization exercises to calm and prepare your mind.

Before you arrive: dress comfortably in yoga or exercise clothes, and wear layers. Bring a small pillow and pillowcase (one for every two people) and a sturdy blanket (wool or woven cotton are best). A journal or notebook and a pen are useful for taking notes. Camera/phones are welcome to capture images from the sequence for future reference!

About the Instructor: Lesli Clarke completed the 6-month 200-hour Thai Therapy certification program through Blue Lotus Thai Healing Studies in Chicago in 2015 and also studied with master instructors in Chiang Mai Thailand in 2016. She currently practices throughout Southwest Michigan. Call 404-889-7164 for more information on private instruction or email ldavisclarke@yahoo.com.

Blissful Backbends with Hilaire Lockwood

RESCHEDULED!

$55

On any given day, backbends can run the gamut of feeling downright impossible to absolutely blissful. It's usually on those days that they don't feel good that we need them the most. Primarily fourth chakra heart-opening postures, backbends also open all seven of our chakras creating a clean line of energy from root to crown. In the yoga philosophy, the heart is the seed to the mind - a welcoming heart creates a loving, accepting and less judgmental mind. In this workshop we will properly align the legs and arms as a starting point for welcoming backbends. We'll explore how to open the spine in a way that protects our weaknesses and challenges our obstacles for an optimal and balanced backbending practice, moving the focal point of our backbends to the middle and upper back to achieve freedom in the lower back. This is a great opportunity to rebuild your backbends from the ground up to feel physically, mentally and emotionally balanced.

Blissful Backbends with Hilaire Lockwood

The Koshas: Finding Bliss Within- A weekend In-depth Study with Malissa Whited

The Koshas: Finding Bliss Within- A weekend In-depth Study with Malissa Whited

Saturday, Aug 13th & Sunday, Aug 14th 12:30-3:30pm

$45 for one day OR $75 for both days

(20% is donated to the families of Joe Zangaro and Ron Kienzle)

The five Koshas consist of the physical layer, the energy layer, the mind layer, the wisdom layer, and the bliss layer. Though philosophy, contemplation, asana, pranayama, meditation, and mantra, we will explore each Kosha to its fullest. Understanding them will help us to recognize how balance in these sheaths will create equanimity within.

We will first discuss the Annamaya Kosha (physical layer) and the Pranamaya Kosha (energy layer). Because these koshas represent the elements of earth and water, we will explore postures and pranayama practices that will create power, space, and fluidity in the breath, the lower body, and the hips.

In the second workshop, we will explore the Manomaya Kosha or the mind layer. Its element is fire, so our physical practice will consist of twisting, forward folding, and back bending asanas that will stimulate the digestive system and awaken the core. A discussion of the fluctuations of the mind, or vrittis, will help us to better understand our intimate relationships to love, food, and life.

Lastly, we will be discussing the Vijanamaya Kosha, or wisdom layer, and the Anadnamaya Kosha, or bliss layer. These Koshas represent the element of air and space. Our physical practice will include a keen understanding of balancing postures as well as active reflection in them to help use our knowledge and experiences to draw us into the moment.

A bit about Malissa....

Malissa Whited stepped on her mat 2 decades ago. It has become a beautiful, guiding force in her life. Its teachings have transformed her through the years, leading her to see more love, compassion, light, and beauty in others, the world, and herself. She is grateful everyday for its ability to break her down and show her the abundant blessings that God provides in life. Its calling has inspired her to share it with others. Her practice is an eclectic fusion of therapeutic yoga, vinyasa yoga, and Tantra Yoga. Her classes are educational, created with a therapeutic focus and are breath centered. She shows multiple levels in her classes to allow her students to manifest an optimal experience in their minds, bodies, and hearts.
