Ayurveda is a sanskrit word that translates as "science of life". It is a system of traditional and preventative medicine the stems from ancient India. Ayurveda utilizes nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, and yoga along with other holistic approaches that lead to balance, vibrant health, well being and longevity.
Ayurveda teaches that learning to live in harmony with the five great elements and the seasons is an important part of maintaining health and balance. This class will open with a down to earth exploration of the fundamental concepts of Ayurveda including: what are the five great elements, what is a dosha and how do I practically apply this information?
Our discussion will deeply explore the elements and qualities present in the fall season and will include guided meditation and pranayama to balance Vata dosha. The last hour of the class will be a physical yoga practice (bring your mat!) that continues with the same theme. What you'll learn is not only applicable to the fall season, but will help you gracefully through all times of change and transition.
