Beginner/All-level Classes:

All Meditation
Classes

Our guided or group meditation classes at Yoga Life all hold a space for individuals to explore their inner world while sitting in a supportive community. Together we will sit and find guidance from the help of a teacher, but as your journey progresses, you’ll find a greater sensitivity to Self and that individual inner voice begins to speak. Meditation brings connection within you and unity in your outer world. Our guided classes can include: Vippassana or “Insight” meditation, imagery, visualizations, Yoga Nidra, breath work, body scans, and more. No experience needed.

Beach Yoga

We are Southwest Michigan’s original beach yoga studio!

Join us every Saturday through the Summer at Lion’s Park Beach! Please pre-register and purchase your pass online ahead of time since no payments will be accepted at the beach. Bring a mat or beach towel, sunscreen, and water. Dress weather appropriate and get ready for some fun! All-levels are welcome to join us for this amazing opportunity to practice at the water’s edge on beautiful Lake Michigan.

Breathwork + Meditation

Come to be guided. Stay to be still. We will enter into silence together and the group will be guided out. This way, there is no need to track time, but instead, just enjoy the present moment, as it comes. Breathing techniques will be instructed followed by a brief guided meditation into a blissful silent space. All are welcome. No meditation experience required.

Restorative yoga is a relaxing style intended to be healing and nurturing for the body and it can relieve stress. This class is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. Props are used to support the entire body in postures, while gently aiding the body in relaxation. This class is appropriate for students of all levels.

Restorative

Kundalini

Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga of awareness. It is an ancient healing practice to awaken and connect with the divine energy within, so you can achieve a life of lightness, joy and boundless love. It’s designed to bring your focus inward to align with the truest highest expression of yourself. As you go on this journey within, you begin to see through emotional debris— to see what thought patterns need to be released— what’s holding you back from your full potential. Kundalini Yoga uses physical postures, breathing techniques (pranayama) meditation, and mantra/chanting to help rewire the brain and break through energetic blocks.

Kundalini is often represented by the snake. The snake represents healing and transformation, literally shedding its old skin in order to grow.

A perfect end to your day and a great class for Yin students who desire more activation and release. This practice will link breath and movements to "build" the postures gradually and gently. The use of props throughout this class will offer support and endless opportunities to modify the poses ensuring all students can experience the benefits. Open to beginners and all levels. Join us to move the whole body slowly towards the final posture of relaxation and peace.

Slow + Gentle

In our busy lives, it’s important we take the time to slow down. Slow flow helps us begin slowing down and taking a pause to appreciate this present moment. We will take time in each posture to find correct alignment, breathe through any blockages, and allow our bodies and minds to settle in. Through this stillness we can find clarity and contentment. By moving slow and gazing inward we begin to clean and clear out the unnecessary things that weigh us down. From there we can learn to let go and experience the freedom and joy this moment has to offer. Beginners and all-levels welcome.

Slow Flow

Flow/Vinyasa

Vinyasa translates as “placing with intention”. This class is a dynamic sequence of postures which all connect to each other using your breath. We begin slow and build on the sequence depending on your individual level. As you find the flow of your poses, you being to find the flow from the tangible aspects of your being, to the intangible. Balancing us from the gross aspects, all the way to the subtle vibrations on a cellular level. This creates a marriage of our movement and our breath, creating balance in our bodies, our minds, and spirits. All-levels welcome.

Yin is the cool, lunar, passive aspect of the Yoga asana (posture) practice. Asanas are held for 3-10 minutes to allow the denser layers of the body to unwind. Yin opens the connective tissues versus the muscles and allows practitioners to experience greater range of motion and flexibility. This class is a perfect compliment to a Power Vinyasa yoga practice and great for anyone who sits or stands during their day. Let the body and the mind rest into stillness as you find the yin to your yang. Beginners and all-levels welcome.

Yin

Yin is the cool, lunar, passive aspect of the Yoga asana (posture) practice. Asanas are held for 3-5 minutes to allow the denser layers of the body to unwind.
After 75 minutes of Yin, we will transition into Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep, for the final 30 minutes of class. In Yoga Nidra,  you will be guided into a hypnagogic state of consciousness where you are between waking and sleeping. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of their inner world. Once the body is relaxed, the inner world that is experienced can be explored by traveling through and penetrating the Pancha Maya Koshas, or 5 layers of our being. "While Yoga Nidra is not a substitute for actual sleep, one hour of Yoga Nidra practice is equivalent to four hours of sleep.  This is due to the series of brain waves experienced along the way. With practice, you’ll eventually be able to enter the delta brainwave state but remain aware.  It resembles what it feels like to be on the verge of being awake and asleep. The conscious experience of deep sleep is what makes it so restorative and unique." (Saraswati 1998, Kumar 2008)

This class is suitable for all abilities and anyone wanting to feel present, relaxed, and rejuvenated. Most of our postures are practiced on the floor. Feel free to wear cozy clothes or bring layers so you are comfortable in our practice of Yoga Nidra at the end.

All-level/Intermediate Classes

All-Level Power Flow

The “power” in Power yoga isn’t about powering through the poses, but instead, finding your own power within. This challenging flow has roots in Ashtanga Yoga. We will practice traditional postures, focus on alignment, and link them together using your breath. When challenged physically, the mind can begin to clear, and as the breath becomes steady and deeper, you’ll feel your own energy flow stronger, allowing your spirit to shine. Detoxify the body and purify the mind in this powerful class and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Not recommended for brand new students. All-levels to Intermediate welcome.

Half Primary Series

In this class, we begin to explore a set series of postures that synchronize with the breath. The first series is known as "Yoga Chikitsa" or Yoga therapy. It includes many forward folds and twists, aiding in detoxification of the body and purification of the mind and spirit. Through consistent practice of the Ashtanga Primary Series, you can begin to see how each time you come to the mat you are different. You develop the ability to observe how your daily life and environment affect you. You can observe what truly serves you and what doesn’t. These traditional series allows practitioners to become the observers of the self and begin to cultivate a greater sense of presence and peace while challenging the physical body and preparing to still the mind. This class is recommended for beginners and all that are new to Ashtanga Vinyasa!

Aromatherapy Vinyasa

Just like our Vinyasa class, but with the addition of essential oils.  Treat yourself to this luxuriously scented vinyasa where the postures and energy of the room all invigorate each other. All-levels welcome.

This creates a marriage of our movement and our breath, creating balance in our bodies, our minds, and spirits. With the addition of a little warmth of the room, you'll start to find more energy, physical strength, increased flexibility, and postures that aren't always accessible when the body is not warm. Average room temperature is 90 degrees via infrared heaters. All-levels welcome.
